Combat Period: Sep-Dec
1944 (At Harrington)
Status: The crew picture is dated 13 September 1944. A
replacement crew, they arrived at Harrington on 11 August 1944 to fill in for
788th crews who would soon be finishing up their tours. Flying their first
combat mission in early September, they managed only a few more before the
"doldrums" period of Oct-Dec. In December of 1944 they were sent on Detached
Service with the 885th BS in Italy (15th AF), never to return. Gomez and Swanson
were probably reassigned soon after arriving at Harrington.
Preferred Aircraft: B24H 42-50382 Though they favored this plane for their brief period of Carpetbagger missions, it was sent to BAD 2 on 5 Jan 1945, the crew having flown B24 42-95152 "Slick Chick" to Italy.
