The crew flew no combat missions at Harrington. The following were shipped to Italy with the 859th BS on 17 December 1944:
Sutton,Brimmer,Marck,Lail
and
Veazey
Stoehrer departed in a different C-47 on that day, as a pilot. The fate of
Anderson, Reshan, and Wood is not discernible from existing records.
The
Sutton crew in Italy
were shot down by five enemy aircraft on the 17th of April, 1945. Part of
the crew were captured by the enemy and held for a few days before being
overrun by the Allies, the remainder parachuted into partisan hands and were
safely returned to base within a few days, excepting a Lt.Cartmill, who
broke a leg on landing.
