recovered from mission reports and microfilm records. They are believed to
be: Os:
Status:
Augmentation crew, Smith's first mission was
#013 in January of 1944. Flying their first mission as a crew in February
1944, they finished up in early July of 1944 with Smith flying 36 missions
as did most of the crew. Favored Aircraft:
Looking at their MRs of June 1944, it appears that the
crew had a definite preference for one plane -
B24D 42-63786.
Never named, the aircraft flew for
the Group from December of 1943 to war's end - it was
piloted to the ZI by the
Fesmire crew in July of 1945. Adding prior duty missions and
those with the 801st/492nd, the plane probably flew in excess of 100 combat
missions.
