The only incoming crew to have a Major as pilot on arrival. Schaefer piloted six Carpetbagger missions and seven gas-haul flights by 30Sep44.  Thereafter his flights appear another 19 times in the Late Period Log. His last mission was a Red Stocking Mosquito mission on the night of 24/25 April 1945. By that time he held the position of 857th Bomb Squadron Operations Officer.
