Thompson's IFR shows no combat for August of 1944,but does show him as a member of the 858th BS which was quickly changed to the 406th NLS after that designation was abandoned by the Provisional 801st BG at Harrington. September shows two combat missions, two aborts and six other flights, all in B24s. October (still in B24s) shows five combat missions, and a big jump in the number of combat missions (20!). His November page is missing and December shows only four combat missions (all in B17s). Weather probably restricted missions during the harsh winter of 44-45. All other pages of his IFR are missing. Mould does not show in the Station 179 Ops Log so it must be assumed that the crew had completed their tour between the Jan-Mar period prior to the Squadron move to Harrington.
Thompson is the main contributor of his crew's data, which includes his (partial) IFR, B-17 nose art photos and the major part of our 406th NLS scans (available on the FTP site).
